MD01 - No valid mandate

What this code means

MD01 means there is no valid direct debit mandate for this collection. The debtor's bank has no record of an authorisation letting you take money from that account.

Typical causes

• The mandate was never registered with the debtor's bank, or was revoked by the debtor.
• The mandate expired — a SEPA mandate lapses after 36 months without a collection.
• The mandate reference (MndtId) sent does not match the one the debtor bank holds.

What to do

Do not resubmit — the collection will be refused again. Obtain a signed, valid mandate from the debtor (or have the existing one reinstated), check the mandate reference matches, and only then collect again. This rejection is final.
